According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census'2001 data the number of men accounted for 173.5 thousand people, or 46%, that of women – 206 thousand people, or 54%.
The number of the permanent population of the region on the date of 5 December 2001 amounted to 377.2 thousand people, including men – 172.1 thousand people, or 45.6%, that of women – 205.1 thousand people, or 54.4%, the urban population – 355.6 thousand people, or 94.3%, the rural population – 21.5 thousand people, or 5.7%.
The age structure of the population, stated by the All-Ukrainian Population Census'2001, is characterized by the following data: the part of children in population has decreased by 7.2 percentage points, part of the persons at the age older than able-to-work has increased by 5.9 percentage points.
The peculiarity of the national structure of Sevastopol' (city council) is its multinational composition. According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census data, more than 97 nationalities and ethnic groups lived in Sevastopol' (city council). Russians make up 270 thousand persons, or 71.6% of the total population.
The All-Ukrainian Population Census'2001 results testified to the tendency to the rise of the educational standard of the population and the increase in the number of people with higher and complete secondary education. The number of people with higher and complete secondary education amounted to 267.9 thousand people, what exceeded by 13.7% the corresponding characteristic of the Population Census'1989.
According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census'2001 data the number of married men and women, accounts for 177 thousand people.
