About number and composition population of UKRAINE
by data All-Ukrainian Population Census '2001

    The number of the urban population, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census data, accounted for 32,574 thousand persons or 67.2%,and that of the rural population - 15,883 thousand people or 32.8%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 2.0 million people and rural by – 1.2 million people, but they still are in the same ratio.

   The part of urban population has increased in 11 regions of Ukraine, decreased – in 5 regions, stayed constant in the rest. Changes took place mainly in central and in several western and southern regions. Especially high level of this index was in Donents’k (90%), Luhans'k (86%) and Dnipropetrovs'k (83%) regions, low level (less than 50%) was typical of Vinnytsia, Rivne, Ternopil', Ivano-Frankivs'k, Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions.
