Main Point in Brief:

The total number of the actual population of Kyiv city, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, accounted for 2,611.0 thousand people.

According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, the number of men accounted for 1,219.0 thousand persons, or 46.7%, that of women – 1,393.0 thousand persons, or 53.3%.

The total number of the permanent population of Kyiv city on the Census Day accounted for 2,567.0 thousand people. The number of men accounted for 1.193.0 thousand people, or 46.2%, that of women – 979.6 thousand people, or 53.8%.

The age structure of the population, stated by the All-Ukrainian Population Census, is characterized by the following data: during the period that have passed since the census of the population in 1989, the part of children in population has decreased, the part of the persons at the age older than able-to-work has increased noticeably, that complicates present demographic situation.

According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data the representatives of more than 130 nationalities and ethnic groups live on the territory of Kyiv city. The part of Ukrainians in the national structure of population of Kyiv city is the largest, it accounts for 1,684.8 thousand people, or 92.5% of the population.

The language structure of Kyiv city, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, is characterized by the following data: the part of those whose mother tongue is Ukrainian totals 92.3% of the population of the Kyiv city, according population census ‘1989 data their percentage was 88.4% .The percentage of those whose mother tongue is Russian totals 7.2% of the population.

The educational level of the population is characterized by the increase in the number of people with higher and complete secondary education. The number of people with higher and complete secondary education accounts for 1069.7 thousand people, that exceeds by 21.7% the corresponding characteristic of the population census‘ 1989.

According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data the number of married men and women , accounts for 904.0 thousand people.
