The actual population of Ivano-Frankivs'k region, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, accounted for 1,409.8 thousand people
The urban population of the region totaled 593 thousand people, or 42.1%, and that of the rural population – 816.8 thousand people, or 57.9%.
According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, the number of men totaled 665.2 thousand people, or 47.2%, that of women – 744.6 thousand people, or 52.8%.
In 15 towns of the region, including 5 towns with the regional status, there live 390.1 thousand people or 66% of the urban population. Towns with the number of inhabitants more than 50 thousand people still include: Ivano-Frankivs'k, Kalush, Kolomyia.
The permanent population of the region as of 5 December 2001 amounted to 1,406.0 thousand people, including men – 663.3 thousand people, or 47.2%, that of women – 742.9 thousand people, or 52.8%, the urban population – 586 thousand people, or 41.7%, the rural population – 820 thousand people, or 58.3%.
The age structure of the population, stated by the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001, is characterized in the following way: baby bust for the last years have resulted in the decrease of the part of children in total population from 25.7% in 1989 to 21.7% in 2001. Simultaneously the part of persons at the able to work age has increased by 1.8% and at the age younger than able to work by 2.2%.
The peculiarity of the national structure of the population of the region is its multinational composition. According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, the representatives of more than 90 nationalities and ethnic groups live there. The part of Ukrainians in the national structure of the population of the region was the largest, their number totals 1,371.2 thousand people, or 97.5% of the population.
The language structure of the region, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data, is characterized in the following way: the part of those whose mother tongue is Ukrainian totalled 97.8% of the population of the region, that was by 2.9 percentage points more than in 1989. The part of those whose mother tongue was Russian totalled 1.8% of the population or by 3.0% less.
The number of people with higher and complete secondary education accounted for 761.2 thousand people, what was by 28.4% more than the corresponding characteristic of the population census ‘1989.
According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data the number of married men and women accounts for 682,4 thousand people.
