Ukraine – is a state in Eastern part of Europe. It covers the area of 603,700 sq.km. According to the All-Ukrainian Population Census the population, accounted for 48.5 million as of December 2001.The average population density was 80 persons per sq. km.
Ukraine borders on Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Russia and Belarus.
After adoption of the Independence Act on 24 August 1991, approved by the referendum on 1 December 1991, Ukraine became an independent state.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, adopted on 28 June 1996, Ukraine is a Unitarian, sovereign and independent, democratic, law-based state.
President of Ukraine is the head of state and acts on behalf of it. President is the guarantor of the state sovereignty, territorial integrity of Ukraine, the adherence to the Constitution of Ukraine.
By the form of government Ukraine is a republic.
State power in Ukraine is divided into three branches; legislative, executive and judicial. In Ukraine the institutions of local government are recognized and guaranteed.
The legislative body of Ukraine is Parlament – Verkhovna Rada.
The Cabinet of Ministers is the highest body of the executive power.
