About number and composition population of ZHYTOMYR REGION
by All-Ukrainian Population Census' 2001
The number of the urban population, according to the data of the All-Ukrainian census of the population, accounted for 775.4 thousand persons or 55.8%, and that of the rural population - 614.1 thousand people or 44.2%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 43.5 thousand people and rural by – 112.4 thousand people, but they still are in the same ratio.

The part of urban population has increased in most districts of region, decreased – in Andrushivka district, Narodychi district, Novohrad-Volyns'kyi district, Olevs'k district. Especially high level urban population was in Malyn district (61.5%), Korostyshiv district (60%), Baranivka district (58.6%)
