About number and composition population of SUMY REGION
by All-Ukrainian Population Census ‘2001 data
The number of the urban population, according All-Ukrainian Population Census data, accounted for 842.9 thousand persons or 64.9% and that of the rural population - 456.8 thousand people or 35.1%. Compared with census ‘1989 data, urban population has decreased by 42.3 thousand people and rural by – 90.7 thousand people.
