About number and composition population of ODESA REGION
by data All-Ukrainian population census ‘2001
The number of the urban population, according to the All-Ukrainian population census data , accounted for 1,625 thousand persons or 65.8%,and that of the rural population - 844 thousand people or 34.2%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 120.7 thousand people and rural by – 52.8 thousand people, but they still are in the same ratio.

The part of urban population has increased in 7 districts of region, decreased – in 10 districts, stayed constant in the rest 9 districts. Especially high level of this index was in Kiliia district (54%), Reni district (51%) and Ovidiopol' district (46%), low level was typical of Sarata(10%), Biliaivka(16%), Mykolaivka districts(19%).
