About number and composition population of MYKOLAIV REGION by data All-Ukrainian census of the population 2001
The number of the urban population, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census data, accounted for 838.8 thousand persons or 66.3%, and that of the rural population - 425.9 thousand people or 33.7%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 35.5 thousand people and rural by – 30.4 thousand people, but they still are in the same ratio.

The part of urban population has increased in 8 districts of region, decreased – in 7 districts: in Domanivka district, Mykolaiv district, Pervomais'k district stayed constant. Especially high level of this index was in Novyi Buh district, Vradiivka district (48%), Arbuzynka district (41%), low level (less than 20%) was typical of Berezanka district (17%), Voznesens'k district (16%), Zhovtneviy district (15%), Mykolaiv district (12%), Pervomais'ke district (7%).
