The number of the urban population, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census population data, accounted for
2,190.8 thousand persons or 86%, and that of the rural population -
355.4 thousand people or 14%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 282.2
thousand people and rural by – 34.3 thousand people, but they still are in the same ratio.
