About number and composition population of KHARKIV REGION
by data All-Ukrainian census of the population 2001

    The number of the urban population, according to the All-Ukrainian Population Census data, accounted for 2,288.7 thousand persons or 78.5%,and that of the rural population - 625.5 thousand people or 21.5%. Since 1989 urban population has decreased by 224.3 thousand persons and rural by – 58.7 thousand persons, but they still are in the same ratio.

    The part of urban population has increased in 9 districts of region, decreased – in 10 districts, stayed constant in the rest. High level of this index was in Derhachi district(71%), Kharkiv district (67%) and Balakliia district (62%), low level was typical of Blyzniuky (19%) and Dvorichna (20%) districts.
