About number and composition population of KYIV REGION by data All-Ukrainian census of the population 2001
According to the data of the All-Ukrainian census of the population ‘2001, the number of men totalled 845.9 thousand people, or 46.3%, that of women - 982 thousand people, or 53.7%.

Foregoing data say about gradual decrease in gender disproportion in the population of region, if in 1989 there were 1184 women per 1000 men, than in 2001 – 1161. These changes are explained by changes in gender structure of rural population, where since 1989 gender ratio has changed from 1261 women per 1000 men to 1206 women per 1000 men. The reverse situation is in cities, where this index has increased from 1121 women per 1000 men in 1989 to 1129 women per 1000 men in 2001.
