During the All-Ukrainian Population Census besides actual there have been accounted permanent population, which is used in calculations of indices, characterizing socio-economic structure of the population. Permanent population of region, as of 5 December 2001 accounted for 1,171.4 thousand people, including men – 554.4 thousand people, or 47%, that of women -617 thousand people, or 53.7%. Urban population – 544.1 thousand people, or 46%, that of rural population – 627.3 thousand people, or 54%.
   Among permanent population citizens of Ukraine totalled 1,1639.6 thousand people, citizens of other countries – 1.8 thousand people, including citizens of CIS – 1.7 thousand people. There were about 22 persons without citizenship
