During the All-Ukrainian population census besides actual there have been accounted permanent population, which is used in calculations of indices, characterizing socio-economic structure of the population. Permanent population of Poltava region, at the date of 5 December 2001 accounted for 1,621.2 thousand people, including men – 742.2 thousand people, or 45.8%, that of women - 879 thousand people, or 54.2%, urban population – 944.3 thousand people, or 58.2%, that of rural population – 679.9 thousand people, or 48.1%.
   Among permanent population citizens of Ukraine totalled 1,613.1 thousand people, citizens of other countries – 4.8 thousand people, including citizens of CIS – 4.6 thousand people. There were about 3.3 thousand persons without citizenship in region. Mostly, citizens of other countries, permanently residing in Poltava region, lived in Poltava city , Kremenchuk city and Komsomol's'k city .
