During the All-Ukrainian population census besides actual there have been accounted permanent population, which is used in calculations of indices, characterizing socio-economic structure of the population. Permanent population of region, at the date of 5 December 2001 accounted for 1,269.9 thousand people, including men – 586.8 thousand people, or 46.5%, that of women – 676.1 thousand people, or 53.5%, urban population – 835 thousand people, or 66.1%, that of rural population – 427.9 thousand people, or 33.9%

    Among permanent population citizens of Ukraine totalled 1,251.1 thousand people (99.1%), citizens of other countries – 16.6 thousand people, including citizens of CIS states – 6.4 thousand people. There were about 4.2 thousand persons without citizenship in region and those who haven’t specify their citizenship – about one thousand people.
