During the All-Ukrainian census of the population besides actual there have been accounted permanent population, which is used in calculations of indices, characterizing socio-economic structure of the population. Permanent population of Luhansk region, at the date of 5 December 2001 accounted for 2540.2 thousand people, including men – 1 million 167.9 thousand people, or 46%, that of women - 1372.3 thousand people, or 54%, urban population – 2183.5 thousand people, or 86%, that of rural population – 356.7 thousand people, or 14%.
    Among permanent population citizens of Ukraine totaled 2 million 525.5 thousand people, citizens of other countries – 7 thousand people or 0.3%. There were about 3.6 thousand persons without citizenship or 0.1% and those who haven’t specify their citizenship – 4.1 thousand people or 0.2%.
