   During Census 2001, total permanent population was Autonomous Republic of Crimea was 2024,0 thousand persons, including men - 931,4 thousand persons, or 46.0%, women 1092,6 thousand persons, or 54.0%; urban population - 1258,7 thousand persons, or 62.2%, rural population - 765,3 thousand persons , or 37.8%.

   Among the permanent population Ukrainians - 1992,0 thousand persons, citizens of other states - 17,0 thousand persons ,including citizens of countries of CIS - 16,5 thousand persons. Persons without citizenship in Autonomous Republic of Crimea -approximately 9,6 thousand persons , and those, who did not indicate citizenship - 5,3 thousand persons.
