Population Census 2001 data show the number permanent population in Chernivtsi region was 919 thousand persons, including:men – 430 thousand persons or 46.8 %, women – 489 thousand persons or 53.2 %, urban population – 368.2 thousand persons or 40.1%, rural population – 550.8 thousand persons or 59.9%.
Among the permanent population the number of citizens of Ukraine 916.2 thousand persons, citizens of other countries – 2.5 thousand persons , including citizens SIC – 2.3 thousand persons. Persons without citizenship in Chernivtsi region - 270 persons.
