The part of those whose mother tongue is Ukrainian totals 73.2% of the population of region, this is by 5.5 percentage points more than in 1989. The percentage of those whose mother tongue is Russian totals 24.9% of the population. Comparatively with the previous census data this index has decreased by 5.5 percentage points. The part of other languages, specified like mother tongue, during the period that have passed since previous census remained at a previous level 1.8%
