About number and composition population of TERNOPIL' REGION
by All-Ukrainian Population Census' 2001
The total number of the actual population of the region, according to the All-Ukrainian population census ‘2001 data, accounted for 142.4 thousand persons. The population density the whole on a region 83 persons per sq. km.
This index is especially low in Pidhaitsi and Shums'ka districts – 46 and 44 persons per sq. km. The most densely populated, there this index makes up Chortkiv (90 persons per sq. km.), Kremenets' and Buchach -was 82 persons per sq. km.
Changes in actual population, have taken place since 1989, are shown in the table:

The population has decreased in the most part of districts of the region, excluding Ternopil’ districts, where this index was 104 % of level 1989.
The number of population in Ternopol’ region increased by 10 percents comparatively with 1989 .
